Attachment-Based Trauma Therapy
Healing Relational Wounds at The Willow Space – Paoli, PA
At The Willow Space for Trauma Treatment, we provide specialized care for those healing from attachment trauma—emotional wounds formed in early relationships with caregivers. These experiences often shape how we see ourselves, connect with others, and feel safe in relationships.
What Is Attachment Trauma?
Attachment trauma develops when caregivers are inconsistent, neglectful, abusive, emotionally unavailable, or misattuned. Contradictory to forming secure attachments with others, these early relational disruptions can leave lasting effects on a person’s ability to trust, regulate emotions, or form healthy relationships outside of just caregivers, most commonly impacting peer, career, and romantic relationships.
Common origins of attachment trauma include:
-
Childhood emotional neglect or rejection
-
Unpredictable or unsafe caregiving environments
-
Parental abandonment, absence, unavailability, misattunement, or criticism
How It Can Show Up in Adulthood
Unresolved attachment trauma may affect:
-
Trust and intimacy in romantic relationships
-
Fear of abandonment or rejection in all relationships
-
Low self-worth and chronic self-doubt
-
People-pleasing or difficulty setting boundaries within relationships
-
Emotional numbness or fear of vulnerability with others
-
Repeating unhealthy relationship patterns

Our Treatment Approach
We use a combination of trauma-informed, evidence-based therapies to help clients process and repair attachment trauma in a safe, supportive environment.
EMDR Therapy: Reprocesses painful relational memories and shifts negative beliefs tied to early attachment wounds.
EMDR Intensive Therapy: Extended 90- or 120-minute sessions for deeper, accelerated trauma resolution.
IFS-Informed EMDR: Combines EMDR with Internal Family Systems (IFS) to explore and heal the “parts” of self shaped by early attachment injuries.
Attachment-Repair Models: Relational, experiential interventions designed to rebuild internal and external safety, emotional connection, and trust. The Willow Space uses the Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy (DNMS) for helping heal individuals with early attachment trauma.
